Katia Martynuk, a senior at Flagler Palm Coast High School, is spreading her passion for training service dogs around Flagler Schools.

"One of the things I realized is that there are not enough service dogs to meet the growing demand for them," Martynuk said. "I decided I wanted to train service dogs."

Martynuk created Paws for People for her Community Problem Solvers project last year to help solve the problem she noticed. On Friday, Dec. 1, she spoke to students at Wadsworth Elementary all day with Nadja, the current dog she's training, by her side.

She said she wants students to realize just how important it is for some people to have a service dog and how hard it is for someone to receive one, as well as the proper etiquette people need to have around service dogs.

"I would like to make it so that it's a permanent addition to the community, so that there are students who train service dogs and volunteer and do this in their free time," she said.

She's working on setting a date to take her presentation to Buddy Taylor Middle School, as well.
