Golden Retriever Sammy Hawthorne was selected as the face of the Ormond Memorial Art Museum's fourth-annual Dogapalooza.
Sammy first entered the contest via a drawing conducted at the 2017 Dogapalooza event. She lives in the neighborhood surrounding the museum with her family and two other dogs.
The upcoming Dogapalooza will help fundraise for the Halifax Humane Society, Great Dawg Rescue and the pet food drive will benefit Sophie's Circle Dog Rescue. The event is presented by Florida Hospital HospiceCare and features activities like dog hair chalking, popsicles (and pup-sicles!) as well as "Pup-arrazi" event photography.
Dogs will also be able to be nominated to be the face of the next Dogapalooza.

The Captain James Ormond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution welcomed four new members at their November meeting.
Ormond Beach residents Beverly West, Susan Weis, Carla Weber, Sharon Lehto and Indiana resident J.P. Roush had the honor of being inducted by the visiting Florida State Regent, Dawn Crumly Lemongello. She spoke to over 65 members about women's issues in the workplace and the progress that has been made.
The DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization composed of women who are descendants of those who served to shape this country during the Revolutionary War. Daughters work to promote the three objectives of historic preservation, education and patriotism at a national level.
Nine Ormond-By-The-Sea Lions and friends conducted their quarterly Adopt a Highway and Adopt a Beach cleanup effort, picking up socks, roofing shingles, nails, toothbrushes, cigarette lighters, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and even a hypodermic
needle on Sunday, Nov. 12.
It was just one of the events the Lions Club conducted in November. The club also listened to a speaker in honor of National Diabetes Day, held its fish dinner fundraiser at Alfies Restaurant where they raised $3,000, traveled to Cypress Creek High School to attend the District 35-0 meeting and held its Thanksgiving Gently Used Book Sale in the Ormond Mall parking lot. The Lions also welcomed two new transfer members, Jack Rowles and Chance Eriksen, and one new member, Maureen Washington. Call 441-4421.
