Mellow Mushroom, 5790 Journey’s End Way, Port Orange, has changed their catering menu to accommodate workers as well as today’s online world. Their new “Catering Re-imagined” menu includes a variety of sandwiches, salads, box lunches and wraps in addition to their stone-baked pizza.
The restaurant often caters business lunches, and catering manager Cathryn Keifer said people sometimes prefer something lighter than pizza when they plan to go back to work.
Also, many meals are delivered to homes and they want to offer more of a variety, according to Micah Brown, of the corporate office in Atlanta.
“There’s less foot traffic in casual dining today,” she said. In today’s online world, people order meals delivered instead of going out.
Mellow Mushroom was started in 1974 in Atlanta by two Georgia Tech students.
“It was just a small pizza joint,” Brown said.
There are now 170 franchises, mostly in the Southeast, and the decor still reflects the culture of the early 1970s, but each restaurant has an individual style, with the Port Orange restaurant emphasizing the beach.
A locally-owned franchise, the Port Orange restaurant opened two years ago. Owner Robert Hargrave, who also has a neuro-physiology company, was seeking a franchise opportunity and he and his wife decided on Mellow Mushroom while eating at one of the restaurants.
Townhouses coming to North U.S. 1
Construction is expected to start soon on townhouses with 1,600 to 1,800 square feet at the Gardens at Addison, located off U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach behind the MBA Business Center near Interstate 95.
SVN Alliance negotiated the sale of the 60 townhouse lots for $1.5 million.
The Gardens at Addison was developed in 2006 as a condominium project but stalled during the recession. The property was re-platted for townhouse lots.
Chris Butera, principal at SVN Alliance, negotiated the transaction representing both the seller,
Silver Creek Development, and the buyer, Landon Homes, a developer based in Jacksonville.
The new townhouses will be priced from the $170s, according to an SVN press release.
Hospital donates toys
Employees at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center donated Christmas gifts of books, art supplies and toys to the Children's Home Society of Florida. There were 1,114 gifts plus 22 bicycles.
“Today, 23% of Florida’s kids, nearly one million children, live in extreme poverty. One in four children will suffer abuse or neglect,” said Kymberly Cook, executive director of the Children's Home Society. “The holidays are a special time of the year, and to see the faces of our children light up after receiving one of these gifts is a truly rewarding experience.”
Gynecology Center adds staff
Kelli J. Marchewka, certified physician assistant, has joined The Gynecology Center, Ormond Beach, which offers gynecology, surgery, women’s imaging and cosmetic enhancement.
Dr. Whitney Shoemaker, who is board certified, opened the clinic in 2009. Shoemaker has been a medical correspondent for FOX News National, including appearances on Fox & Friends and Fox Weekend Live.
The most popular offering at the Center in 2017 has been vaginal rejuvenation, according to a press release. The therapy alleviates symptoms common in post-menopausal women and requires no anesthesia.
“It’s changing the personal lives of women who have had to suffer silently for years,” Shoemaker said.
A University of Florida graduate, Marchewka earned her M.M.S. in physician assistant studies at Nova Southwestern University, Orlando.
