Four members of a Volusia-wide car burglary gang will be prosecuted for over 40 charges altogether, which include grand theft with a firearm, burglary of conveyance and fraudulent use of stolen credit cards.
The men, Laron Manning, 20, Carmaine Givens, 20, Erik Smith, 20, and 18-year-old Markees
Shine were all arrested earlier this year. With the exception of Manning, who was arrested on Dec. 6 for crimes committed in October, the rest of the men were in police custody at the same time in late November. Court records show that Shine was issued a 5-day jail sentence for a misdemeanor dating back to September.
Both Shine and Smith were identified by what the Ormond Beach Police Department considered to be the "five biggest players" in car breaks and auto thefts in the area during a Crime View meeting held on Nov. 15. During its investigation, police saw evidence of their involvement in car theft cases in Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach and as far as Deltona thanks to social media posts by the men, which included videos waving guns and stolen car keys around.
All four are being charged for crimes committed from late October to mid-November. Their arraignments are scheduled for early January, except for Manning's whose is scheduled for Dec. 28.
