King Rafael Soto and Queen Joy Oliva of "Castle Matanzas" ruled over the school's Madrigal Dinner on Friday, Dec. 15.
About 160 guests were transformed back in time to the Renaissance period as they enjoyed a Yuletide feast prepared by Matanzas' culinary classes, which are taught by Lisa Kittrell.
The dinner served as a fine arts fundraiser and was put on by the Matanzas drama and chorus departments, headed by Noel Bethea and Jens Oliva respectively.
Over 100 students showcased their vocal and acting talents during the royal banquet. The chorus performed holiday songs, and the thespians of the drama department entertained with a lively script and puppet show.
Bethea said that she and Oliva wanted to celebrate the students' talents as well as raise money for the spring performance, "Shrek The Musical."
"Musicals really are great collaborators as well, because we have actors, singers, dancers and technicians involved in the process," she said. "We're also going to have a live pit this year."
