The Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals awarded Peter and Sue Freytag as philanthropists of the year during the National Philanthropy Day awards luncheon at Oceanside Country Club on Nov. 17.
The Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation and the Flagler County Education Foundation both nominated the Freytags for this award.
“The Freytags have done so much for the kids in our community. We are so proud to have them as a part of our FCEF family,” said Joe Rizzo, executive director of the Flagler County Education Foundation.
“Peter and Sue are very special people and do so much for others. We are so grateful for them,” said John Subers, director of the FHFF.
Two shows opened Saturday, Dec. 9, at Flagler County Art League for a packed house: Gargiulo Four Women Show and the annual Student Art Show. Here are the winners:

Acclaimed author Lynne Matson met with the Matanzas High School Creative Writing Club and Book Club for a writing workshop on Friday, Dec. 8. Lynne Matson is best known for the novel "Nil," which earned a spot as a nominee on the 2015/2016 Florida Teens Read list.
Matson guided students through the writing process as they collaborated to turn basic prompts into captivating stories. She shared her experience of becoming a professional writer and inspired students to follow their own dreams, whether they wish to become writers or do something else entirely.
Matanzas JROTC cadets took part in the presentation of the American Flag during the National Anthem at the Southeastern Conference Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on Dec. 2.
