March: He can’t walk, but Wade Farmer tried out Itty Bitty, the FFA miniature horse, with a little help from his mom, Carla Whitley, and FPC student Carley Koehler.
March: Doug Mascenic looks at his yard as his fiance, Samantha Plank, plays with son, John Mascenic, 5. High costs are pushing families out of Palm Coast, as government programs struggle to meet the need for affordable housing.
April: Nereyda Campos, 8, is ready for the pie-eating competition. It was all part of Relay for Life 2017, held on April 1 at Town Center, to honor survivors and raise funds for cancer research.
May: David Flores and Madysen Shields check the fitting of the prosthetic leg for Zeus as owner Cailin Kaklamanos looks on, at i3 Academy, which is gaining fame for the project.
June: The Hoffmann family — Mara, Dallen, Joseph, Chloe and Brooklynn — perform “Try Everything,” by Shakira. The home-schooled team won third place in the senior division at the talent show.
July: Ossie Cassell, Ida Jordan and their mother, Luella Johnson, sit on a history of Flagler County float during the Fourth of July parade in Flagler Beach.
August: Professor Severus Snape, played by Peter Bugnet, pours a color-changing potion into a glass during a Harry-Potter themed class at the Flagler County Library.
September: Scott Fox is one of the owners of Tortugas’ Florida Kitchen and Bar in Flagler Beach, but he has spent the aftermath of Irma out taking care of the community.
September: Mimi Baruch holds up flowers of each symbolic color. Blue represents a person who has Alzheimer’s, yellow is they know someone with it, orange symbolizes support and purple shows someone they know has died.
September: Jodie Von Gal mops up the mud in her home on Ocean Palm Drive left by Hurricane Irma with 8-year-old Palm Coast resident Sophia Dolney helping her.
October: Pilot Tripp Wacker and Airport Director Roy Sieger pose by the Israeli Aircraft Westwind that Wacker piloted for the first takeoff and landing on the new Runway 11-29 at Flagler Executive Airport.
