The Ormond Beach Police Department has obtained an arrest warrant for Gregory Allen Dailey Jr., 29, in connection with a stabbing that occurred at 2:35 a.m. on Feb. 7 at 6 Brookwood Court. He has been charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon.

Witnesses at the scene identified him as the person who stabbed the victim, Rickey Shelhorse, of DeLand, who was taken to Halifax Health with a punctured lung and lacerated liver, according to the arrest report.

The first incident report listed Dailey with an Ormond Beach address but the arrest warrant lists him as transient. He is five feet, 11 inches tall, and weighs 140 to 170 pounds.

Dailey should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Witnesses at the home told police that Dailey had been under the influence of narcotics and had been acting paranoid that night. They said he became agitated and walked outside, and Shelhorse followed to check on him. Moments later, Shelhorse came back in, saying he was stabbed, and they called 911.

After Shelhorse was transported to the hospital, an officer interviewed him there. While being treated, Shelhorse told the officer that he had been talking to Dailey’s girlfriend and he may have become jealous. He said after Dailey walked out, he followed him. Outside, Dailey pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed him without saying anything. Dailey then left the scene on foot.

At first, Shelhorse said an unknown male stabbed him outside. He later admitted he made that up to protect Dailey who he considers a brother. He said he only stabbed him because he was using meth, the report said.
