The Florida Highway Patrol has closed State Road 11 between Haw Creek Road and County Road 304 as firefighters work to contain two brushfires, which began Feb. 15 and continued Feb. 16.

Winds of 15-20 miles per hour Feb. 15 pushed the fire — which was about 50 acres and spread across both sides of the road the afternoon of Feb. 15 — to the northeast, according to a Flagler County government news release.

"The wind isn’t helping us,” Flagler Fire County Fire Rescue Chief Don Petito said in the news release. “We are working diligently to get things under control.”

By the morning of Feb. 16, the fire had grown to about 400 acres but was 60% contained, according to a news release from the FHP.

The FHP urged drivers to use caution when traveling in the area, and to use low beams.
