Halifax Health has opened an urgent care center in Ormond Beach at 775 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 102.
Open six days a week, Halifax Health – Urgent Care offers onsite care of minor illness and injury for adults and children starting at six months of age, according to a press release. Medical services include X-ray, electrocardiogram, laboratory services and sports physicals, as well as follow-up care resources.
The clinical team is Dr. James D. Henson and physician assistant Neha Patel. The center is open Monday through Friday from noon to 8 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Most insurance plans are accepted. Call 425-4480.
Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced recently that Ormond Beach MainStreet has been designated the February 2017 Florida Main Street Program of the Month. Communities are selected based on their developmental achievements and participation in the Florida Main Street Program.
“With supportive downtown partnerships, Ormond Beach’s MainStreet program has invigorated public participation and entrepreneurship within the historic commercial district,” Detzner said.
Executive Director Julia Truilo said they were delighted to have the designation.
“There are a lot of terrific MainStreets in the state,” she said.
The local organization has facilitated 52 Building Improvement Grants where a business must at least match a grant from the city up to $50,000. Since 2005, $1,771,840 invested by the city has resulted in $8,224,064 in private investment, according to figures provided by Truilo.
The money provided from the city is Community Redevelopment Area funds, which comes from taxes collected in the district, which runs along Granada Boulevard.
Also, marketing grants of $500 each are given to four new businesses each year.
The organization also creates and runs event, such as River Fest and Celtic Fest, and Truilo said along with the Farmer’s Market they bring more than 40,000 visitors each year.

Volusia County’s Beach Safety Division plans to hire 150 part-time lifeguards this summer.
Tryouts at the Ormond Beach YMCA, 500 Sterthaus Drive, will be Feb. 25 from 8 to 11 a.m.;
March 4 from 1 to 4 p.m.; and March 11 from 8 to 11 a.m.
Applicants must be at least 16 on or before June 1 and be able to swim 500 meters freestyle in under 10 minutes, 50 yards freestyle in under 30 seconds, and run a half-mile in under 3 minutes, 15 seconds. Starting pay is $11 per hour.
Those who meet the requirements must complete a 40-hour first responder/CPR course and attend recruit class.
