Seabreeze Project Unify basketball team takes state runner-up
The Seabreeze Sandcrabs Project Unify team finished runner-up to Ed White (Jacksonville) in the FHSAA State Championship on Friday, Feb. 24, in Lakeland. The team was supported by the State champion soccer team and the Seabreeze spirit section.
Mainland’s Dennis Shorter wins USA Football’s first ever golden ball
Mainland Buccaneer Dennis Shorter made history by becoming the first ever USA Football Golden Ball recipient on the high school level at the Regional Development Camp on Sunday, Feb. 19, in Orlando. The award is voted on by the camp coaches.
Student of the Month
Seabreeze Sandcrab Jacob Smith was selected as the Ormond Beach Lions Club February Student-Athlete of the Month.
Smith has earned a 4.3 GPA, placing him 16th in the Class of 2017. He is a member of the 3A state champion soccer team and has started on the team since his sophomore year.
Smith has helped repair houses for the last two summers in in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He also assisted with Hurricane Matthew cleanup.
Tomoka Elementary crowns its fastest mile runners
Tomoka Elementary School held its annual Tomoka Mile Race Friday, Feb. 24, at the school.
Treyon Newton won the boys competition, and Dyles Day placed second and Tony Kinsler Jr. took third.
In the girls race, Lyla Roberson and Camryn Chiumento tied for first place. Kendra Uneda placed third.
Ormond Sandcrabs cheer placed sixth at nationals
The Ormond Sandcrabs Pop Warner JV cheer team placed sixth in the nation at the Pop Warner Cheer and Dance Nationals Competition at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Hole-in-one
Don Crippen, a member of Riverbend Men’s Golf Association, recorded his third career hole-in-one, on the 17th Hole on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Riverbend Golf Course.
