Two people were killed in a T-bone crash on westbound Palm Coast Parkway the evening of Jan. 16 after a pickup truck ran a red light and crashed into a sedan, killing the sedan's driver and passenger.
The sedan’s driver was 55-year-old Palm Coast resident Terri Lynn Wickel, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release. The passenger who was killed was Margaret Ann Wickel, a Matanzas High School student.
The crash happened at Palm Coast Parkway's intersection with Pine Cone Drive/Lupi Court.
Palm Coast resident Tyler Lane Wilkinson, 25, was driving west on Palm Coast Parkway in a 2000 Chevy Silverado, according to the FHP news release. Wickel was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion south on Lupi Court through the intersection when Wilkinson ran the red light and struck the Fusion.
The truck and the sedan both crashed into the ditch in front of a wooded area on the south side of Palm Coast Parkway across from the Watson Realty office and Tuffy Tire and Auto Service.
Terri and Margaret Wickel both died at the scene of the crash. Wilkinson — a felon with prior arrests for selling marijuana and parole violation, as well as citations for numerous traffic offenses including speeding and running a stop sign— had minor injuries and was able to walk out of the truck.
The Florida Highway Patrol's online listing of road incidents stated that FHP troopers had been dispatched at 7:07 p.m. They arrived at about 7:40 p.m., and Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies had by then closed the left lane of westbound Palm Coast Parkway near the scene of the crash.
Palm Coast Fire Department ambulances responded to the crash site.
FHP investigators were still interviewing witnesses on the shoulder of the road next to the two crashed vehicles as of 9:20 p.m. They told FHP investigators that the truck had run the red light. A tow truck arrived at about 9:30 p.m. to remove the vehicles. Charges were pending against Wilkinson as of the morning of Jan. 17.
