The Mainland Buccaneers handed the Father Lopez Green Wave one of its most lopsided losses of the season — 57-39 — on Thursday, Jan. 19, at Mainland.
Coming off five games in a span of a week, Lopez exhibited exhaustion, as the Green Wave was not able to match the Bucs’ energy.
Mainland led the game from start to finish, separating itself from Lopez in the second quarter, where the Bucs allowed just two points.
We finally played to our advantages,” coach Landis McCoy said, “focusing on transitional speed and multiple defensive tactics.”
Although Lopez attempted a comeback in the third, Mainland scored 23 points to Lopez’s 11 in the final quarter to extend and maintain its sizeable lead.
Game stats: Mainland’s Kendall King and Andrew Guillory led all scorers with 17 points. Jvonte Moore poured in 12 points. Colin Castleton led the Green Wave with 14 points. Mario Maitland followed with 13 points.
Heavily fatigued? Father Lopez has played six games in nine days (all losses) from Jan. 11-19.
