Nick Kubiet gets selected to Class 6A All-Team
Matanzas Pirate senior Nick Kubiet was selected to the Florida All-State Class 6A Second Team by newspaper editors and reporters.
Kubiet finished the season with 90 total tackles, 38 tackles for loss and 14.5 Sacks.
Kubiet racked up 17 tackles in Matanzas’ first program playoff game this past season.
Miracle Porter finishes at 238 career goals
After breaking the state career goals record at 230 several weeks ago, Lady Pirate Miracle Porter has added eight more to close out her high school total at 238 goals, five goals short of taking over third place in high school girls soccer. Matanzas (13-9-1) was beaten in the district semifinal by top-seeded Pedro Menendez 5-4.
Porter ended the season with 57 goals and 41 assists, both area bests.
Some of her teammates also put up respected offensive numbers. Sophomore Alyssia Paiz scored 41 goals and 12 assists, and senior Leanna Ballschmeider scored 20 goals and 24 assists.
FPC wrestling takes down state-ranked Clay
The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs (13-0) beat No.2-ranked (1A) Clay 45-28 in a dual meet Thursday, Jan. 19, at Clay.
Christian Sheppard, Steve Canidate, Eddie Bryant and Vincent Ebanks all won by pinfall. Michael DeAugustino, Avery Holder, Damion Figourea and Michael Martins also picked up wins.
The Bulldogs are now ranked sixth in Class 3A and 10th in the state. Holder ranks at the top of his division, and DeAugustino currently sits second.
The Bulldogs will be back in action for the Flagler Rotary Wrestling Tournament, beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 at FPC, and the final rounds will take place on Saturday.
Kadon Smith shines in All-American Bowl
Kadon Smith played in two games during All-American Bowl Week at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. He played defensive end for both games, racking up eight tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Kadon plays for the Flagler Titans.
Patrick White takes first at Muir Woods Trail Run
Patrick White, a seventh-grader at Indian Trails Middle School, won first place for his age group in the half-marathon at Muir Woods Marathon at the end of last year in Stinson Beach, California.
The course began at sea level but went up 1,300 feet and through the Muir Woods State Park.
Patrick was the youngest to compete in the race; the next youngest 17.
Lady Bulldogs basketball beat Raines for four straight wins
In an up-and-down season, the FPC Lady Dawgs (13-8) hope this past week’s winning ways will carry on into the district tournament and maybe the postseason. The Bulldogs beat Raines 49-44 Thursday, Jan. 19, at FPC.
Skye Green and Jimaya Baker both led the team with 15 points, but Green added three rebounds, three steals and three blocks.
FPC has Middleburg on the 23rd and Father Lopez on the 25th, and then the Bulldogs will begin district play on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at FPC.
