A police officer struck by a car on Thursday has not been injured, according to Port Orange Police Public Information Officer Evan Doyle.
The officer had responded to a man being pulled over on Thursday, June 29, according to the police report. The report indicates another police officer had stopped Daniel Lilly, 24, from South Daytona and, when Lilly fled the scene in his car, he hit the second officer in the leg with the vehicle.
A high-speed chase ensued where Lilly was reported to be weaving between lanes and estimated to have been driving around 100 miles per hour. Near the 1200 block of Beville Lane, Lilly ended up crashing into another vehicle from behind and slowed before making a full stop in front of 1266 Beville Rd., according to the police statement. Authorities reported Lilly exited the vehicle while being told by police to do so at gunpoint.
Lilly was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, prisoner escape and aggravated fleeing/attempting to elude and resisting an officer without violence. He was also issued a citation for his tail lights and expired registration. Lilly was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center for injuries from the crash.
