A man with a gun robbed the Space Coast Credit Union July 5, then slipped away as deputies placed the nearby Palm Coast United Methodist Church and Sunshine Academy on temporary lockdown.

Deputies are searching for the suspect, described in a Flagler County Sheriff's Office news release as a 20-30-year-old black man with a goatee or a beard, wearing black pants, sneakers and a long sleeve gray T-shirt.

The robbery happened at about 10:40 a.m. as the suspect entered the credit union and demanded money from a teller. He didn't point the gun at anyone, but showed that he had it in his waistband, according to the news release.

Once the suspect got the cash, he fled. Deputies aren't sure whether he left on foot or in a car. No one was injured.

Sheriff Rick Staly, deputies, K-9 units and Sheriff's Office tactical teams responded to the scene and created a perimeter, and the county's emergency helicopter, FireFlight, helped search for the suspect.

The Sheriff's Office issued a “Be On The Lookout” alert and a suspect description to state and local agencies, according to the news release.

“This suspect should be considered armed and potentially dangerous,” Sheriff Staly said in the news release. “This case is under active investigation. Help us give this guy a room at our Green Roof Inn.”

The Sheriff's Office has asked anyone with information about this robbery or suspect to call the Sheriff's Office's non-emergency line at 386-313-4911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477. Crime Stoppers tipsters may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
