Copperline Coffee owner Nick West pours hot water over freshly ground coffee beans. Every cup of coffee is made fresh to order.
Copperline Coffee is located at The Pavilion in Port Orange, and features a Tennessee-style atmosphere.
Nick West wanted to give something to Port Orange.
He noticed that craft coffee shops were limited in the area, and with his experience in the industry he figured he would start his own. With quality cold brews, cakes, mimosas and craft beers, Copperline Coffee is establishing itself.
“What makes us stand out is our detail to quality and love for local, independent business,” West said. “I like to try to support local as much as possible and we try and use mom and pops [as our example] for the most part."
West works hand-in-hand with his wife Amelia. The couple met when they were 14 years old in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Apparently it took him about seven times to ask her out before she said yes, but since their introduction to each other in high school, it’s been a bond that can’t be broken. She’s a key cog in the operation of the shop, which included pouring free mimosas for any paying customer on their grand opening celebration on Saturday.
West’s Tennessee upbringing reflects the look and feel of his store. Signs like "Chattanooga Wagon Company" sit on blue walls with the antlers of a deer not too far away.
It's an atmosphere that feels like the inside of a cabin in the Smokies, and it's authentic.
The shop grinds all of its coffee to order, and pours water over the grinds slowly in front of the customer.
Working alongside the two on Saturday was David Yerxa, who recently moved to Edgewater from the Florida Keys and creates custom drinks for the shop.
“I really like latte art, and I’m not as good as it as I want to be yet, but it’s something that’s fun to make,” Yerxa said. “It’s a really nice area around here and we’re glad to be a part of something that a lot of people have liked so far.”
Copperline Coffee has been open for over a month now, but their grand opening was Saturday, where live music played throughout the day, the mimosas were free and the vibe was chill.
It’s a simple business with a simple message that resonates to anyone that walks through the door. For Copperline Coffee, the fun of what they do comes from the craft, and their ability to give their customers a product they are proud to serve.
“We try to make people’s day better,” West said.
