Local homebuilder Vanacore Homes announced a milestone on July 17 regarding the Scottsmoor development in Halifax Plantation.

With nearly half of the first phase of the luxury golf villa community sold, the builders' sales have exceeded $9 million. Once completed, Scottsmoor will have 160 home sites. The duplexes will be close by the Tomoka State Park, and offer a "maintenance-free living" according to a company press release.

Owner Scott Vanacore said he can't think of another community like it in Ormond Beach.

"I see it as Ormond's premiere community," Vanacore said.

Vanacore has built over 3,000 homes in Volusia and Flagler county in almost 30 years, said Vanacore. The company was first started in 1991 by Vanacore and his brother Todd Vanacore, who are both from Volusia County.

Vanacore homes will now begin Phase II of the Scottsmoor development.
