Three Ormond Beach female entrepreneurs will be sharing their experiences and ideas to others in the upcoming second annual Boss Lady Retreat.
The women are Ashly Rose from Dollface Hair Refinery, Ashlee Roberson from Simply Roses and Little Blog Dress Media owner Darlynn Tacinelli. All three women will be guest speakers during the two-day female business owners networking opportunity. The Boss Lady Retreat will feature 14 speakers, both local and national, on topics such as creating a customer service culture and what to do when facing obstacles as a female entrepreneur.
Founder Lacey McLaughlin said while the retreat is highlighting female entrepreneurs from all over Volusia County, Ormond Beach has been attracting talented business owners to the area with creative and authentic ideas.
“I think it’s just really important to highlight our successful female business owners in our community in Ormond because they’re leaders and they’re setting an example for others to follow,” McLaughlin said.
Tacinelli, who in addition to Little Blog Dress Media also started custom invitation business Noted Paperie in April, said being part of the Boss Lady network was beneficial because it was like having a personal sounding board, referring to being able to speak about the challenges of being a female entrepreneur with people who understand.
“When you’re a woman, some of the challenges are a little bit different,” Tacinelli said.
Roberson, who will be teaching a floral design class at the Retreat, said she’s flattered that McLaughlin asked her to be a part of the Retreat this year.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to be around people that are motivated and excited about their businesses,” Roberson said.
She said The Boss Lady Retreat will be a great opportunity for all of the women, both speakers and attendees to learn from each other and see how their experiences could help them in their own businesses.
McLaughlin cited the latest women status report from the Institute For Women’s Policy Research from 2015 in regards to how female-entrepreneurship is increasing in Florida but average revenue for female-owned businesses have not changed.
She said the purpose of The Boss Lady Retreat is to empower women, create a supportive network and create opportunities for the community to benefit from their businesses.
Rose said Boss Lady is great because there aren’t many local female business-minded groups that focus on empowering women and helping them succeed based on what they need.
“I think that not enough people realize how valuable this is in our community, where we’re constantly trying to better ourselves but nobody sees it,” Rose said.
