Flagler Schools’ new superintendent, James Tager, welcomed Matanzas High School Principal Dr. Earl Johnson into a new role as executive director of leadership development at the School Board meeting on June 6.
Tager praised Johnson’s 26 years of experience at many levels of educational positions.
“He has done a fantastic job with the culture at Matanzas High School,” Tager said. “And he has been doing both jobs the last couple days.”
As the Matanzas High School principal since 2015, Johnson encouraged a positive atmosphere while also generating school spirit. He said he hopes to be able to continue that in his new administrative role.
“It’s going to be a huge learning curve for me, but I’m excited,” Johnson said. “I’m a lifelong learner, and I’m looking forward to working with all the different schools and different departments.”
Johnson was named a finalist for Florida’s 2017 Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership, otherwise known as the Principal of the Year Award, in April.
The search for a new principal for Matanzas High School commences June 7 with a job opening posting, according to Flagler Schools Community Information Specialist Jason Wheeler.
