Flagler Palm Coast girls basketball coach Javier Bevacqua concluded his ninth-annual basketball camp Friday, June 10, at FPC.
All players were divided into teams and played multiple games, with an announcer who highlighted every score, to close out the camp. Players were then given certificate of completions for the camp and skill evaluation forms to work on their basketball strengths and weaknesses. All games were coached by FPC girls basketball players.
Unlike the past years, parents filled the bleachers for each game to support their children, due to a positive change Bevacqua and his volunteers made to increase game-day attendance.
“One of the reasons they missed the games in the past is because we would come out with the schedule the morning of the games,” he said. “So we listened to them, and we worked on the schedule earlier, and parents were able to ask for days off.”
On giving each participant an evaluation sheet, Bevacqua said, “We always stress quality over quantity. It’s not just running up and down the court here. We try to teach them what they’re doing wrong. And the evaluations are a personal touch of what we try to give them. It gives them something — if they’re serious about basketball — to look forward to, so they can get better.”
