Six boy scouts from Ormond Beach troop 403 posted 11 flags during the Flag Day ceremony at the Ormond Beach Elks Lodge 2193 on Saturday, June 10. Each flag represented specific times in U.S. history.
The ceremony included the playing of recordings by comedian Red Skelton’s pledge of allegiance and radio broadcaster Paul Harvey’s history of the Star Spangle Banner.
The ceremony ended with a bit of a surprise for the scouts when Patricia Hubert, exalted leader of the Ormond Beach Elks, presented Scout Master Bob Trulio with a check for $500. Hubert said that the Elks help to sponsor the troop and received the funds through a grant.
The lodge was also celebrating the reopening of its kitchen after renovations were completed with a Family Fun Day that included a pig roast and games for the children.
