The Ormond Beach Police Department is investigating a suspicious incident that occurred at 11:02 a.m. Wednesday, July 21 at 226 Cardinal Drive involving a police cruiser. Initially it was believed someone may have shot at the cruiser.
Officers were at the location responding to an assault that occurred at Pirate’s Cove Miniature Golf Course.
After returning to the patrol car to check the assault suspect’s name for warrants, a “pop” was heard and the driver’s rear side window shattered.
Paula, who did not want to use her last name, said she heard a sound and saw the rear window shatter. She questioned as to whether the sound she heard was a gun shot.
“When the officers jumped out with their guns drawn I ran in there,” Paula said pointing to ticket office at Pirate’s Cove miniature golf. “One of the officers came over and put us on lock-down.”
A search of the area, which included a helicopter, was conducted but no suspect was found. The cruiser was removed around 1:30 p.m.
There were no injuries.
