Veterans Park at City Center may be getting a few changes at the recommendation of one of the council members.

During Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Council Member Chase Tramont, District 2, said he would like to see some improvements to the park to better honor veterans. He mentioned one possibility could be installing miniature Vietnam walls, which are traditionally inscribed with the names of indiviuals who served in the military.

The city uses the park, located across the lake from city hall, for ceremonies including Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Markers below the American flag were put in place to memorialize each branch of service.

According to Port Orange Mayor Don Burnette, the park was recently redone within the last few years. He told the Port Orange Observer he thinks the council is going to workshop it after budget season is done and that no firm date has been set.

The Port Orange Observer hits driveways July 13. Send story ideas to Nichole Osinski at [email protected].
