During Tuesday’s Port Orange City Council meeting, council members had a short, yet important, discussion on the area’s homeless community.

According to Port Orange Mayor Don Burnette, Daytona Beach is partnering with the county to build what he explained was “a long-discussed, long sought after shelter west of Daytona.”

To help pay for the operational costs, the City of Daytona is looking for partners, Port Orange being one of those potentials. They are requesting $85,000 to be included in this venture.

Burnett wrote in an email that construction on the shelter is slated to begin soon.
