Father Stephen Ogonwa “Father Seno” the parochial vicar at Prince of Peace Catholic Church for the past six years has been appointed pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Candler, Florida.
Prior to coming to Prince of Peace his assignment was at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange, where he served in the same capacity for three years.
Parochial vicars are priests who are assigned to assist a pastor as a co-worker in the pastoral ministry of a parish.
Ogonwa is a native of Nigeria and converted to Catholicism. He was ordained a priest in Nigeria in 2001, and served as associate pastor and pastor at several churches in his native country before coming to the Diocese of Orlando in 2008. His first assignment in the U.S. was at Our Lady of Hope in Port Orange. He became a U.S. citizen in 2015.
Father Titus Kachinda, from St. Ann’s Catholic Church in DeBary, will be replacing Ogonwa. He is expected to begin at Prince of Peace on July 1. He is the seventh of 10 children and was ordained into the priesthood in 1997.
