Ormond Beach police arrested Darcy Hugh Rose, 48, on Monday, June 26, for attempted robbery at the Tropic Sun Towers, 591 S. Atlantic Ave. at 5:07 a.m. June 5.

Wearing a hoodie and covering his face with a piece of fabric, the suspect pointed a gun, later identified as a “BB/pellet,” at security guard Ron Clausen telling him to “give it up.”

Clausen, who had started working at the complex six days before, knocked the gun out of the suspect’s hands and threw him first to the ground and then out of the lobby before calling 9-1-1.

Fingerprints recovered from the gun left at the scene by the suspect were matched to Rose, who is a registered sexual offender and had an outstanding warrant in Ormond Beach. Rose denied involvement even after viewing video security footage showing him wearing the same clothes and shoes as during the robbery.

Rose has been charged with attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $50,000 bond.
