Gaslamp Shoppes on Granada will soon be getting a male-oriented counterpart to Dollface Hair Refinery.

The Men’s Refinery plans to be an upscale barbershop with an option for monthly memberships for those who are on a hurried schedule. The refinery will be run by Dollface owner Ashly Rose and will open in the storefront besides her salon, though they will not connect.

“I don’t want to see another barbershop in town,” Rose said. “I really want to create an awesome community-welcoming environment for men, kind of a hang-out, where we have some well-educated staff that can take men to the next level in their grooming.”

Angela Heaster, co-owner of Gaslamp Shoppes on Granada, said she believes the refinery will draw a new crowd to the shoppes and hopes all the businesses will be able to benefit from it.

The barbershop will replace Marguerite’s Florist. After 33 years, owner Monica Yates has announced her retirement. Yates’ flower shop was first opened in 1976 by her grandmother. Marguerite’s Florist was the only shop remaining from before the Heasters bought the shoppes in 2013.

“I’m very fortunate that [the Heasters] bought the shopping center and I got to be a part of that for a short time,” Yates said.

The Men’s Refinery is scheduled to open its doors in the fall along with Wild Rabbit Café.
