Witnesses told police that Gregory Allen Dailey was under the influence of narcotics and acting paranoid the night of Feb. 7 — paranoid enough to stab a man who thought of him "as a brother."
Around 2 a.m., Dailey walked outside of 6 Brookwood Court after becoming agitated. According to the report, Rickey Shelhorse of DeLand followed outside to check on him. He returned moments later saying he had been stabbed.
After Shelhorse was transported to Halifax Health with a punctured lung and lacerated liver, he told police that he had been talking to Dailey’s girlfriend and he may have become jealous. He said Dailey pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed him without saying anything, and then left the scene on foot.
At first, Shelhorse said an unknown male stabbed him outside. He later admitted he made that up to protect Dailey who he considers a brother. He said he only stabbed him because he was using meth, according to the report.
Dailey was located and arrested Feb. 28 by the Daytona Beach Shores Police Department. He has been charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
