Miss Soccer, a title that suits Lady Pirate Miracle Porter
Although her high school playing career ended several months ago, Matanzas star soccer player Miracle Porter continues to receive honors. Porter was recently named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-Star Game MVP for the North.
But, most notably, Porter has been named Florida Dairy Farmers Miss Soccer, Flagler or Volusia County’s first in its 24-year history.
Porter finished the season with 57 goals and 41 assists, and she set the state record with 238 goals, which ranks fourth-all-time nationally. She has signed with Florida Atlantic University on full scholarship.
Avery Holder selected as Central Florida Athlete of the Week
Flagler Palm Coast High School junior Avery Holder was selected as the Spectrum Sports Central Florida Athlete of the Week for last week. Holder became the first Bulldog to win the state champion in 10 years, last weekend.
FPC former wrestler Kaz Maia finishes Top 10 in the nation
FPC alum Kaz Maia recently placed eighth to help his school, Iowa Lakes Community College, also finished eighth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling Championships last month in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Maia finished his freshman season with a 21-4 record and All-American honors.
Flagler Senior Softball donates to girl scouts
The Flagler Senior Softball League donated $200 to the Girls Scouts No. 1527 post to make up for the cost of the damaged boxes of cookies. The Girls Scouts’ booth was recently vandalized at Walmart.
“Flagler Senior Softball League is proud to be a part of this community,” said Flagler Senior Softball Commissioner Pat Dooley, “and we feel strongly about giving back to show our appreciation for what we have at this stage of our lives.”
The league is currently looking for any seniors 55 and over who may be interested in playing in the spring season, starting March 27. Games will be played on weekdays at Flagler County Recreation Area CR13 Bunnell. For contact information, go to eteamz.com/flaglerseniorsoftball/.
Free NCCAA Youth Sports Clinic is March 18
All Children 6-16 years of age are invited to participate in the free National Christian College Athletic Association Youth Sports Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 18, at various locations.
Those interested in attending and learning from NCCAA coaches and student-athletes in either soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball or golf must register online at www.palmcoastgov.com/register or in person at Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool offices at 339 Parkview Drive. Superheroes race in 5K run
Locals and out-of-towners dressed up and ran in the annual Superhero 5K run/walk that was hosted by Palm Coast Community Church and Palm Coast Community Child Center on Saturday, March 4, at the Central Park Town Center.
The 5K event also had an obstacle course for toddlers and VPK kids and a Super Loop fun run for grades K-3.
Locals Tyler Boyle (third), Jose Musso (fourth), Vincent Mingils (fifth), Luke Williams (sixth), Jody Marolf (seventh), Alexander Barneski (ninth), Arien Striplin (10th) and Joseph Mastropierro (11th) all placed in the Top 11.
Pickleball in the Hammock
The Hammock Community Center is hosting its free inaugural Hammock Cup Pickleball Tournament on March 17-19 at its location at 79 Mala Compra Road.
