The Flagler Knights — the local semi-professional football team and members of the Florida Football Alliance — went into their game against the Tampa Bay Patriots — the league's best offense (avg. 33 points — as the league's best defense (avg. 9 points).
The Knights (4-3) held the Tampa Bay Patriots (6-1) to just two touchdowns in a 14-8 losing effort on Saturday, March 11, at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
The Flagler defense sacked the Patriots' quarterback five times (Justin Edwards and Stevenson Jean-Louis each had a pair, and Jarvis Jones had one), picked him off in the end zone (Quinn Bell) and often found itself in the Patriots backfield for tackles for loss.
The Knights led late in the game after a 21-yard touchdown reception from Jake Murdock to Koron Maultsby, but two late touchdown drives allowed Tampa to pull ahead and win.
A short-handed Flagler lost four of its top players (Marcus Mitchell, Steven Mosely, Sammie Cooper and David Collier) to the Rivals Professional Football League a few weeks back, but the Knights showed they still can compete with anyone in their league.
