The city is currently preparing a grant application in the neighborhood of $800,000 to aid in the construction of the Cassen Park Public Dock. Grants are being submitted to the Florida Inland Navigation District and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservatin Comission.
According to City Engineer John Noble, the city already recieved $53,000 in grants for the design phase of the project.
The Florida Department of Transportation will conduct a safety study for the proposed bike crossing at the intersection of Thompson Creek Road and West Granada.
An analysis of traffic volume and speed will determine whether a median modification to permit pedestrians and bicyclist crossing West Granada Boulevard is safe. Once that study is complete, the city will begin a feasibility study, that has already been drafted, reviewed and commented on by staff.
There was a brush fire in a six-acre area of Tomoka State Park March 6. Crews assisted the Department of Forestry with cutting fire lines around the fire starting at 9 a.m. The scene was cleared around noon.
