During Monday night's city commission meeting, commissioners approved a proposal from Zev Cohen and Associates Inc., to turn Field 7 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex into the Ormond Beach Championship Softball Field.

According to President of Zev Cohen Dwight DuRant, the field is currently serving both men and women's softball. The design will strictly be for women and will include improvements to the field, a concession stand, restrooms, dugouts, pitching warmups, batting cages, bleachers and a press box.

DuRant said the renovation comes because there isn't a field specifically for women's softball anywhere else in the city.

"The women have to play on men’s fields with temporary fences to reduce the field size," he said in an email. "As a result, the girls and the women do not get to enjoy the experience of hitting a home run over a real fence. A regulation size field will allow championship games and tournaments to be held on a field specifically designed for their use."
