Ormond-By-The-Sea resident David Dalecki died the afternoon of March 22 in a car crash on Interstate 95 in Palm Coast.
Dalecki, 49, is the owner of the Volusia County-based remodeling company Got Tools and the husband of Cindy Dalecki, who owns the Palm Coast-based marketing company Marketing 2 Go.
David Dalecki was driving southbound on I-95 near mile marker 384 in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado at about 4:15 p.m. when the car veered to the right and off of the roadway, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The Silverado then made a sudden turn back across the road’s southbound lanes and struck a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 78-year-old Ormond Beach resident John Henningsen.
Dalecki died at the scene of the crash. Henningsen was taken to Florida Hospital Flagler with minor injuries.
In a message on Facbook, Cindy Dalecki thanked the friends and community members who’d come together to help her family since David Dalecki’s death.
“We are humbled, overwhelmed, and in true awe of your support,” she wrote. “Many of you knew Dave and knew what an amazing husband, father and friend he was to all.”
On Facebook, friends described Dalecki as a devoted father to his sons, a humanitarian and an avid surfer.
“We lost one of the most genuine, caring, and amazing people I’ve ever known yesterday,” Kristen Weitzel wrote on David Dalecki’s Facebook page after the crash. “David Dalecki never hesitated when it came to taking care of other people.”
Jordan Farrell, of Parkside Realty Group, wrote, “We lost a great humanitarian and friend yesterday. Prayers for strength and comfort for Cindy Dalecki’s family.”
David Dalecki will be honored Sunday, April 2 at a service at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home. The Dalecki family will receive family and friends at 2 p.m., and then will host a celebration of life at 4 p.m. on the grounds of the memorial gardens, according to David Dalecki's obituary. All are welcome to attend the celebration of life, and attendees are encouraged to wear tropical, beach-casual clothing.
Surfers are invited to a “paddle out” at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1, in David Dalecki’s honor on the south side of the Flagler Beach Pier.
Friends can make contributions to the family by check (payable to Cindy Dalecki) or by cash deposit at Intracoastal Bank. Donations may also be made through paypal.me/dalecki. The money will help pay for college expenses for David Dalecki’s sons, Dalton and Tyler, and also to help install portable water filters for children in other countries who do not have clean water access.
The Rotary Club of Flagler Beach will dedicate its station at the First Friday event on April 6 to David Dalecki, who was a longtime Rotary volunteer and had served as the club's grill master. The station will serve hotdogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers, and funnel cakes, and proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Dalecki family. People who would like to donate can also drop off donations at the Rotary tent that night.
