FPC boys track wins Five-Star while girls take runner-up
The Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs continued their dominance over its conference track meet, winning their 12th championship — third in a row — on Friday, March 24, at FPC.
The boys winners and runner-ups included: Frank Clark (second), triple jump; Mark Bertrand (first), pole vault; Michael Peppin (first), shot put and discus throw: Darrell Thomas, Nelson Paul, Benjamin Barthellemy and Que’Shaun Byrd (first), 4x100 relay; Christopher Musial (second), 800-meter run; Musial, Levi Burton, Thomas and Shawn Gordon (second), 4x400 relay.

Matanzas track breaks more school records
The Matanzas track teams competed at the Florida State University Relays this past weekend at FSU, and several teams and individuals left with new school records.
Kylie Dahlberg, Isabella Rodriguez, Rain Marti and Morgan Sharman (10:09) set the new record in the 4x800 girls relay. Nick Kubiet (52 feet 8 inches) broke the shot put record, and Jacob Miley broke his old school record in the 800-meter run with 1:54.
Pirates’ Nick Kubiet signs to Tulane
Last month, Matanzas Pirates star defensive player Nick Kubiet signed to forward his education and football career at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Kubiet was named the Daytona Beach News-Journal Defensive Player of the Year his senior season after putting up 90 tackles (22 for loss) and 13.5 sacks. He finished with 17 tackles in Matanzas’ first ever playoff game this past season.
Kubiet chose Tulane over Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Samford, Southern Miss, Princeton and others schools.
FPC’s Bella Giuliano chooses Rollins
Lady Bulldog Bella Giuliano recently signed to forward her education and soccer career at Rollins College. Giuliano started all four year starter for the Lady Bulldogs. She co-captained her junior and senior seasons helped lead the Bulldogs to three district and conference Championships, two region finals and a region championship.
Giuliano tallied 20 goals and 15 assists this past season was recently selected to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North Senior All-Star team.
Lady Pirates open flag football season with statement win
The Matanzas Pirates avenged last loss to Seabreeze by edging the Sandcrabs 13-12 in the Pirates’ season opener on Thursday, March 23, at Matanzas.
After a 42-0 win over Atlantic a few days prior, Seabreeze couldn’t muster any offense against the Pirates. Matanzas second-year quarterback Jaida Reddin completed four of her nine pass attempts for 45 yards and two touchdowns, and she ran 12 times for 105 yards. Miracle Porter caught all of Reddin’s passes and also gained 40 yards on the ground.
Palm Coast Sludgehammers honor Francis Ouimet
The Sludgehammers of Pine Lakes Gold CLub recently participated in their annual "Ouimet Day," where the golfers honored Francis Ouimet, who won the US Open in 1913 as a 20-year old amateur.
The locals wore golf attire from the early 1900s.
