The Matanzas Pirates downed the Seabreeze Sandcrabs 10-7 at "The Ship" on Friday, March 31, a few days after Seabreeze beat Matanzas on its home diamond 10-5.
The Sandcrabs (9-7, 6-4) and Pirates (6-6, 2-4) totaled together 17 runs on 20 hits, and multiple runs were scored in four of the seven innings played.
Matanzas took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but Dennis Filipovski hit a home run in the third that brought in two other base runners.
The Pirates quickly retaliated with five runs in the same inning off of several hits and errors, and Seabreeze would come back at the top of the fourth with another three runs.
After holding the Sandcrabs scoreless in the fifth, Matanzas scored another two runs and held on for the win.
"We are ascending," Matanzas coach Jim Perry said. "We're competing for seven innings. We're competing on every pitch. If we continue to compete on every pitch and give ourselves a chance, I like where we can go."
Up next the Pirates will play Nease at 6 p.m. Monday, April 3, at Matanzas, and Seabreeze will play Atlantic at 5 p.m. on Monday in Port Orange.
