Brittany Franklin, 2017 senior class president at FPCHS, doesn’t believe her class will be easily forgotten.

“We’re outgoing,” she said. “We’re very loud. You can always spot the seniors at the football games.”

The class has also left a legacy of community involvement that Brittany hopes others will follow. The student government had a theme of “We challenge you,” and she said the students stepped up to the plate. They had a community service project focused on water safety, which they promoted at events. They also plan to make a presentation on water safety at a VPK class.

Brittany has spent all her school years in Flagler County schools and with graduation just around the corner, hopes to return someday after graduating from Florida State University.

“I’d love to come back as an elementary school teacher,” she said recently, in an interview where she reflected on her class and experience at the school.

She said her classmates are optimistic about the future after graduation. In the Guidance office, there’s a display showing what students plan on doing after they graduate.

“It’s incredible to see where all we are going,” she said. “We have high hopes, high dreams and we’re shooting for the stars.”

There’s a full range of options chosen by graduating seniors, from those planning to go to Ivy League schools to those with career plans that don't involve a university. There's a wide choice for students after high school, she said.

The current national debate about politics and social policy also exists on the high school level, with politics often a topic on social media. But, Brittany believes it’s good to be involved.

“If we all stay involved and stay educated, the only place we can go is up,” she said.

Brittany was a student representative on the Flagler County School Board this past year, and said they work very as a team and for the schools.

The amount of testing is always a topic when it comes to schools these days, but Brittany believes the school system in on the right track, even though the tests can get burdensome at the end of the year.

After all her involvement with student government, band and other activities, it’s the relationships Brittany said she will remember.

“I’ve made a lot of friends who will stay with me after graduation,” she said. “We’ve made memories that will last a lifetime.”
