Nick Kubiet places second in state shot put competition
Matanzas senior Nick Kubiet finished his track and field career by placing runner-up (he was projected to place sixth) at his first ever Florida High School Track & Field State Championships, on Friday, May 5, at IMG Academy.
Kubiet placed Top 4 at all 11 of his events, including a district championship and five other wins. His teammate, Camden Givens, placed 10th in the triple jump.
Charlie Washington coaches football team to league championship
In his first season as head coach of the Florida Red Wolves of Rivals Professional Football League, local Charlie Washington led his team to the league’s Southern Conference championship with a 20-16 win over the Atlantic Sharks on Saturday, May 5, at Ted Hendricks Stadium in Hialeah.
FPC pole vaulter ends career with fifth-place finish Mark Bertrand
Flagler Palm Coast senior Mark Bertrand closed out his high school pole vaulting career with a fifth-place finish at the state meet. Bertrand had also placed fifth at the 2015 state meet. His recorded his personal best of 14 feet 6 inches at the 2016 Flagler Pinnacle Classic.
Victoria Woroniecki and teammate place eighth in national synchronized swimming
U.S. Senior National Squad members Victoria Woroniecki and Anita Alvarez clinched another Top 10 finish by placing eighth in duet tech in the Japan Open Saturday, April 29, in Tokyo, Japan. morning at the Japan Open, the third leg of the FINA Synchronized Swimming World Series.
Matanzas girls Kylie Dahlberg and Isabel Rodrigues sign letters of intent
Isabel Rodrigues has sighed her scholarship LOI to run track and cross country for Division-II
Christian Brothers University in Tennessee. Rodrigues ran track and cross country for four years, having qualified for state in cross country twice and this year with track. She holds three school records.
Kylie Dahlberg has sighed her LOI to continue both track and cross country for Division-II Lenoir-Rhyne University. Dahlberg ran track and played soccer for four years, and she competed in cross country for three years. She qualified for the track state meet two years and cross country for two years, and Dahlberg reached the soccer Final Four. She holds five track school records.
Aedan reels in a big one
FPC JV baseball player Aedan Celestino caught this six-pound largemouth bass at one of the local lakes just days after the season concluded. His father, Pete, says that if Aedan’s not playing baseball, he's most likely fishing.
