After throwing spears, racing through the mud and tackling the almost impossible corkscrew monkey bars, Evan Williams ended the North Florida Spartan Race with one final challenge: to get Jessica Szoke to marry him.
The Ormond Beach couple has been together for six years and moved from New Jersey to Ormond Beach in 2013. They learned about the Spartan Races at Gold's Gym and started training for them together. On May 13, they ran their third race together.
"He had his friend come to the race with the ring," Szoke said. "He rushed the last obstacle so I wouldn't see him, and by the time I was finished, I turned around, and he was on one knee."
Szoke said this is their second race this year, and they're planning on completing the trifecta in December.
"We pretty much stay together the whole time, motivating each other," she said. "We love it."
