Seven Flagler County organizations award $70K in scholarships

2017 Antonio Amaral Foundation Academic Scholarships:

These recipients earned $25,000 total:

Jordin Wallace Castanheira, Ashley Monique Carvalho, Nicole Couceiro, Kevin Mendes Cruz, Emily F. Dias, Cristina Marie dos Santos, Hannah Neve Ferreira, Xana Julia Ferreira, Sky Angel Gonçalves, Noelle Schneider, Daniela F. Teixeira, Anabella Maria Giuliano and Adriana Isabel dos Santos

For the first time, Antonio Amaral gave out four Leadership Awards to:

1. Leadership Award in Public Service: Mayor Milissa Holland

2. Leadership Award in Philanthropy: Dr. Caesar DePaço, Portuguese Honorary Consul and wife Dr. Deanna Padovani-DePaço

3. Leadership Award in Education: Maria Barbosa-Flagler Board of Education

4. Leadership Award in Community Affairs: Fernando Gonçalves Rosa-PALCUS, Portuguese

 

Rotary Club of Flagler County Scholarships

The Rotary Club of Flagler County awarded a total of $12,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Flagler County this year. The club granted $10,000 for five Education Foundation Scholarships and $2,000 to students recognized by the Rotary Club’s monthly athlete of the month program at both Matanzas and Flagler Palm Coast high schools.

The five top scholars, who were awarded $2,000 each are:

Abby Duquette, Kelvin Tran, Elizabeth Mason, Cassandra Gubala and Casey Rinella.

“It is important for the community to recognize student excellence,” said Jim Troiano, Rotary Club of Flagler County president. “Our club is proud to participate and provide scholarship funds to our graduating seniors.”

Athletes selected this year from Flagler Palm Coast High School are:

Ann Buss, Anna Walls, Preston Harvey and Taylor Allesse. Allesse was selected to receive the $1,000 scholarship for FPCHS.

Athletes selected from Matanzas High School are:

Sarah Dillion, Kaylee Mandt, Nick Kubiet and Daniel Ramirez. Sarah Dillion was selected to receive the $1,000 for Matanzas High School.

Coaches of the month recognized by Rotary Club at Flagler Palm Coast High School are:

Garry McDaniel, Dave Halliday and Mindi Scala-Sanders.

Coaches recognized at Matanzas are:

Dawn Moses, Robert Ripley, Jacob Scott and Donald Lockhart.

“We also work with athletic directors at each school to select a coach of the month,” Troiano said. “Coaches have a positive effect on students’ lives. Often, they coach them in life as well as sport.”

The Florida Hospital Flagler medical staff awarded four local graduating high school students with $750 scholarships, totaling $3,000.

Florida Hospital Flagler radiation oncologist Dr. Luis Carrascosa presented the awards to the students during a ceremony at the Flagler Auditorium on April 27.

This year’s recipients were Flagler Palm Coast High School students:

Abby Duguette, Krishna Louis, Casey Riella and Kelvin Tran.

 

Chi Delta Omega Chapter of AKA Scholarships

The members of the Chi Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. recently hosted a reception to recognize its 2017 high school scholarship recipients. AKA awarded five $1,000 scholarships this year.

The Flagler Woman’s Club Scholarships

The Flagler Women's Club awarded seven seniors from Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas High Schools with $2,000 scholarships.

Palm Coast Arts Foundation scholarships

The Palm Coast Arts Foundation (PCAF) has awarded the 2017 Ernie Refolo scholarship to two local graduating high school students.  Matanzas High School student Tyler Wise and Flagler Palm Coast High School student Kathleen Wells each received a $500 scholarship, totaling $1000.

 

The Flagler County branch of the American Association of University Women Scholarships

The branch awarded $11,000 in scholarships to young women in Flagler County at a luncheon on May 13. In addition, the branch recognized one college student who has been selected to attend AAUW's National Conference for College Women Student Leaders and two middle school students selected to attend AAUW Florida's Tech Trek STEM camp this summer.
