Thanks to a fundraiser through the Port Orange Elks Lodge 2723, a check for $1,700 was donated to the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Nov. 7.

The money was raised during a dinner where more than 90 tickets were sold and an auction was held with items donated by Elks members and the community, according to Cheryl Sullivan, community development manager for the Southeast region of the American Cancer Society.

Sullivan said the money will support recovery and cancer research.

"We were thrilled. It's always an honor to receive anything from the community," Sullivan said.
