Spruce Creek's bid for an upset in the opening round of the FHSAA Playoffs never materialized, as the No. 8 seed Hawks (8-2) lost to No. 1 seed Winter Park 41-14 on the night of Friday, Nov. 10, at Showalter Field in Winter Park.

The Hawks coughed the ball up three times, two of which came in the first few minutes of the second half, and surrendered four touchdowns to Wildcats running back Tyrone Davis and two passing touchdowns to quarterback Cameron Legree.

Despite the score, the Hawks' senior quarterback, Kyle Minckler, had a solid night picking apart the Wildcats' defense, especially in the first half, where he completed 13-of-16 passes for 178 yards and two scores.

The game was tied 14-14 before Winter Park returned a kickoff for a touchdown just before halftime.

On the Hawks' first play from scrimmage in the second half, Jacquez Lord was stripped and the fumble was returned for a 46-yard touchdown. The 5-foot-7, 150-pound running back gained 12 yards on 16 carries and was responsible for all three of Spruce Creek's fumbles.

The Hawks will lose Minckler, Lord and play-making safety Jhemez Hull to graduation.
