Six Flagler Palm Coast High School students will head to New York to perform in the Macy’s Great American Marching Band during the famous Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Cassie Ventura (Dancer for the Spirit of America Group), Ekatereena Kouzina (Dancer for the Macy’s Great All American Marching Band), Olivia Hale (Alto Saxophone player for the Macy’s Great All American Marching Band), Sebastian Meindl (Banner Carrier for the Macy’s Great All American Marching Band), Allison Huggins (1st Clarinet Player for the Macy’s Great All American Marching Band), Ellis Valladares (Trombone Player for the Macy’s Great All American Marching Band) were all hand selected with audition requirements.
Over 240 students from all over the nation will be participating. The FPC students raised nearly $2,000 each to attend.
Palm Coast resident Hailee Ostapko was recently selected to participate in the 2017 Miss Teen pageant competition that will take place on Sunday, Dec. 3.
Ostapko will be competing for her share of thousands of dollars in prizes and specialty gifts that will be distributed to contestants. She’ll be competing in the Miss Teen division, one of four divisions that will have young ladies ages 7 to 20 competing in modeling routines, which include Casual Wear and Formal Wear, as well as interviewing with this year's judging panel. Personality is the number one aspect that each contestant is judged on during all phases of competition.
If she wins Miss Teen, she would represent Palm Coast at the national competition in Orlando.
Community businesses, organizations and private individuals are needed to become her official sponsors to assist her in this year's competition. Through sponsorship, each contestant receives all the necessary training, rehearsals and financial support to be a well-prepared contestant.

Palm Coast has launched a new Virtual Citizen’s Academy, which gives citizens an opportunity to learn more about their city government from their own computers, tablets or smart phones. The online academy can be completed at the reader’s own pace and has no deadline for completion. It is an alternative to the in-person Palm Coast Citizen’s Academy.
“You’re going to love this experience,” Mayor Holland said. “As one of the first graduates of the Citizen’s Academy of Palm Coast, it was such a value added to my life. I felt a sense of pride even greater than I did going into it, and you get to know every single part of your city.”
The Virtual Citizen’s Academy is available online at palmcoastgov.com/vca.
The in-person Citizen’s Academy will be continuing for those who prefer that option. Residents can sign up online at palmcoastgov.com/palm-coasters/citizens-academy. The next session, in March 2018, is full. But spots are still available for next year's two other classes, beginning in May and September 2018.
The most recent Citizen’s Academy was completed in October with 23 graduates. It was the 42nd graduating class in the program’s history. This session’s graduates were Josie Araneta, RJ Araneta, Kay Ann Bartell, Barbara Burkley, Claudia Cannady, David Cirksena, Susan Cirksena, Andrew Dodzik, Norma Francis, Rudy Francis, Barbara Holley, Barry Ivers, Yvonne Jukes, Gloria Kelly, Maria Martens, Peter Martens, Patricia McLauren, Raymond O’Connor, Bonnie Parker, Michelle Rankin, Maria Stewart, Millie Williams and Ruby Wyche.
The Columbian Club of Flagler County hosted a Flagler County Hurricane Relief Program on Oct. 22 and raised a total of $1,060, which was donated to the Salvation Army to assist Flagler County residents who were affected by Hurricane Irma.
The donation was presented to Major Caleb Prieto of the Salvation Army by Carmen Bongiovanni, president of the Columbian Club of Flagler County, accompanied by Jim and Melanie Bolling, members of the band Double Play who donated their talents for the event.
The Flagler/Palm Coast Kiwanis Club recently recognized the Seniors of the Month for October and November. Each high school in Flagler County selects an outstanding senior to be recognized for their academic achievement and participation in extra-curricular activities.

The Honorable Judge Melissa Moore-Stens presented Stephen Woodin Sr. with the Presidential Volunteer Award, on behalf of President Donald Trump, at the County Court Mediation Service Appreciation Dinner on Sunday, Nov. 5.
Woodin is a Florida Supreme Court Certified County Mediator and volunteers with the seventh judicial circuit in Flagler County. He was recognized for his contributions to the field of mediation and his success of resolving over 90% of over 1,000 mediations. Stephen is also the Director of the Flagler Mediation Center.
