OBPD arrests three people involved in chainsaw burglary

The three individuals entered an open garage in Ormond Lakes.

Police arrested three people in Ormond Beach after they stole a chainsaw from a residence's open garage on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

William Belden, 32, Harley Goodwin, 28 and Ormond Beach resident Morgan Esau, 29, were detained shortly after the incident which happened at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Emerald Oaks Lane in the Ormond Lakes community. According to police, Belden and Goodwin ran into the home's garage and stole a new 18-inch Stihl chainsaw. Witnesses saw the men leave with the stolen property on an old Chevy Impala, which was being driven by Esau, and notified the homeowners.

OBPD later located the vehicle, and its occupants, in the McDonald's located in 1520 N. US 1. The vehicle is property of Belden's associate who said it had been stolen. She said Belden had found the Impala and that there had been three chainsaws in the vehicle when he did. According to a police report, Daytona Beach Police Department countered that statement, saying the Impala was not registered as stolen and was being loaned out by Belden.

Belden and Esau were charged with principal to unarmed occupied burglary to an occupied dwelling and Goodwin was charged with unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling and providing a false name to law enforcement. All three were transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

This is Belden's 11th arrest, Esau's second and Goodwin's 16th.
