Ormond Beach organization Light The Way is partnering with the Halifax River Yacht Club for the Daytona Beach Christmas Boat Parade for the second year in a row, the funds of which will help cancer patients in Volusia County.
Shelly Hamm of Light The Way said their organization assists cancer patients with their day-to-day activities and needs, such as
housekeeping, meals, lawn work and helping to take care of their families and pets. Partnering with the Halifax River Yacht Club benefits Light The Way because 100% of money raised goes directly to the organization. Last year, they were able to raise $3,000.
“Even though it is a private organization, we really wanted to give back to the community and we wanted to give back to the whole community, because the Halifax Yacht Club encompasses all of Volusia County,” Hamm said.
She said the parade is open for anyone to join, and that last year the parade had over 30 boats. They started preparing for the parade earlier this year, and have already doubled the amount of funds raised from last year, Hamm said. They are still accepting sponsors and donations and will do so until the day of the parade.
“We’d like to make this bigger and bigger every year, but we just have to get the word out that all of the money goes to Light the Way. It really benefits the cancer patients," Hamm said.
