To help isolated seniors during the holiday season, the local Home Instead Senior Care® office serving Flagler County is inviting the community to come together to bring some comfort and holiday cheer to area seniors through its “Be a Santa to a Senior” program.
Trees will be on display from Nov. 17 to Dec. 18. Holiday shoppers can choose an ornament from a tree, buy the requested gift and return it to the store with the ornament attached (no need to wrap it). Community volunteers and program partners will wrap and deliver the gifts to local seniors in time for the holidays. Visit BeaSantatoaSenior.com or call 986-1931.

Flagler County Fire Rescue outreach includes inviting schoolchildren and scouts into its stations to get a closer look at the gear and equipment firefighter-paramedics use to save lives and protect property.
Kindergarten classes from Imagine School (108 students plus teachers and volunteers) recently visited Station 41 in the Hammock to see the firetruck, ladder truck, ambulance and marine unit. Lt. Mike Pius and firefighters Justin Stone, Marianne Houston, Jared Parkey, Steven King and Brian Meehan gave the tour.
Station 92, located at the Flagler Executive Airport, hosted a group of Boy Scouts earlier this month. Lt. Armando Castaneda and firefighters Jesse Hunter, Aaron Price, Jon Moscowitz and Eric Burney dressed in full turnout gear in keeping with the Scout’s concept: “Firefighters are my friend.”
Palm Coast resident Judy Durish, Management, Larry L. Luing School of Business®, received the Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award during the 2017 Berkeley College Faculty Recognition Awards dinner Nov. 2 at Battery Gardens in Manhattan, NY.
“There are times when I wonder if I have chosen the right career path,” Durish said in a press release. “Can I really make a difference in someone’s life? Will my students remember one thing I taught them in the years ahead? Are they better off having had me as a professor? All of these questions are answered when I hear from a former student telling me how grateful he or she was for all of the things they learned in my classes. Yes, I made the right choice more than 50 years ago.”
Palm Coast invites all residents to take the city’s comprehensive citizen survey between now and Dec. 9. The online survey went live on Nov. 24.
The website is at bit.ly/palmcoast2017. The survey may also be accessed through the Palm Coast website at palmcoastgov.com. Click “National Citizen Survey” on the homepage.
The online option is in addition to the regular mail-in survey conducted for the city by National Citizen Survey every other year. Earlier this fall, 1,500 surveys from the National Citizen Survey were mailed to randomly selected residents, with representation from each of the city’s four districts. Both survey processes are anonymous.
