Robin Henning has been a part of the Port Orange Family Days since early 2000.

Henning had been working as the director of member services for the Port Orange South Daytona Chamber of Commerce and, when volunteers were needed at Family Days, she stepped up to the plate. The Port Orange resident's initial work at Family Days was as a golf cart driver to transport attendees between the event and their vehicles.

For Henning, the task was a way to chat with people and get their opinions about the event. The interactions were also a way for her to not only talk about what was going on but relay her passengers' feedback to the board for Family Days so that they could make improvements.

It was something she enjoyed.

"I was one of the first people to sign up each year," Henning said.

Here husband, David Henning, also joined and has become a volunteer alongside his wife.

Henning continued to volunteer each year. Eventually, her dedication paid off and this year she was asked to be on the Board of Directors.

Now she helps oversee getting volunteers and helping organize what each volunteer will be needed for and where. Each month Henning meets with the other board members and, as it comes closer to Family Days, they divide into sub-committees to better prepare for the event ahead. It's a journey that's come full circle.

"It's a great group of people," Henning said, adding, "I've known a lot of them for a long time."

As for Family Days itself, Henning said it has grown and become even better. She noted she has seen more vendors coming in as well as more community support.

And Henning's future plans?

"I'm hoping to stay involved for as long as I can," she said. "I hope we’ll continue to make it bigger and add more events in the coming years. I just enjoy being a part of it."
