Ormond Beach Lions Club recognizes its Seabreeze High School's Student-Athlete of the Month

The Ormond Beach Lions Club honored Seabreeze High School honors student, Grace Rodriguez, as its student-athlete of the month for September.

Rodriguez has been part of SHS's flag football team for three years and the school's varsity bowling team for two years, all the while maintaining her 4.0 GPA. She also volunteers at Halifax Hospital and participates in the county's Advancement Via Individual Determination, or AVID, program. Her bowling coach, Tonya Wilhelm, described Rodriguez to the Lions Club as an "outstanding student, with a very positive outlook and an inspirational team leader."

After she graduates from SHS, Rodriguez plans to attend Vanderbilt University to major in Chemistry. One day, she hopes to become a cardiologist.

Details: It's a special one-day pop-up art showing.

"Beautifully Broken"

When: 5-8 p.m., Oct. 27

Where: Arts on Granada, 67 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach

Details: Artists Rachel Thompson, Don Davis and Glenda Greenberg interpret the concept of repairing broken pottery with gold sets through different mediums. The reception includes beer, wine and finger foods.

Seaside Decorative Painters of Daytona Beach to host upcoming auction in Ormond

The Seaside Decorative Painters of Daytona Beach's 15th annual auction to raise money for community service projects and charities in Volusia and Flagler is coming up.

The auction is the organization's main fundraiser of the year. Aside from a silent auction, the event will also hold a luncheon. The Seaside Decorative Painters of Daytona Beach meet on the third Saturday of every month for a painting class.
