A Government Affairs Committee has been formed by the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce to address local, state and national issues that are important to the business community. The first meeting was held in September and the process is now being formalized.

Through the committee, the chamber can advocate for businesses and help with issues that affect them, according to Debbie Cotton, president and CEO of the chamber.

“A Government Affairs Committee is a key element of our plan to become a certified chamber by the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals and eventually with the U.S. Chamber for accreditation,” Cotton said.

The committee will track, research and discuss important public policy issues and will be viewed as an advisory group that develops public policy positions for the Board of Directors to consider. This committee will take a proactive approach in addressing issues important to the chamber membership and business community, Cotton said.

The chamber by-laws prohibit endorsing candidates; however, the committee may endorse issues.

Members of the chamber from various industries have been invited to participate.
