The eclectic selection of apparel, jewelry, accessories, shoes and home décor hits the customers’ eyes as they enter Purple Dragonfly Boutique in Ormond Towne Square, telling them it will be a fun place to shop.
Fun is indeed part of the experience at the shop, where owners Gayle Giacobbe and Rebecca Taylor like to get to know their customers.
“We have been incredibly blessed with a fantastic staff that has helped create a fun place to shop,” Taylor said. “That is what I love the most about Purple Dragonfly Boutique and the proudest of; we have loads of fun with our customers.”
They are currently celebrating their 10-year anniversary, the week of Oct. 9-13, with a special event each day as a way to say thank you. Details can be found on their Facebook page, “pdboutique.”
“It’s a party and each day of the week will have a particular theme,” Giacobbe said. “We would not still have our doors open if it was not for this community and our loyal customers. This party is a fun way for Rebeca and me to say thank you.”
Giacobbe and Taylor were friends 10 years ago when they decided to open a store, not knowing that the big recession was about to hit. But instead of succumbing to the economic downturn, the little business thrived.
While those who had been in business for awhile were experiencing a downturn, Purple Dragonfly didn’t know the difference.
“We didn’t have anything to compare it to,” Taylor said.
Taylor said they kept their merchandise unique and carefully watched what people were buying.
“We kept our fingers on the pulse,” she said.
They also were creative in marketing, using print as well as the Internet.
They have also been active in the community, from guide dog programs, The Futures Foundation for Volusia schools, breast cancer, United Way, Halifax Humane Society, Halifax Urban Ministries, etc.
Purple Dragonfly Boutique is in Ormond Towne Square at 1462 W. Granada Boulevard, Suite 220.
